Well, once again, it seems that for Rick Santorum, good things come in 3s.

After his clean sweep of 3 states last Tuesday and then raising $3 million in the 3 days following, we posted a piece entitled “Rick Santorum: 3 States, 3 Wins, 3 Days, 3 $Million”

This theme was repeated again on Friday because 3 big things happened in Santorum’s favor.

The first is drawing the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List, which is a major national pro-life organization of more than 365,000 members nationwide.  This is the foundation’s first ever endorsement of a presidential candidate in a primary race.

Second is Santorum pulling a major endorsement away from Mitt Romney in Ohio.  The endorsement came from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine who changed his endorsement from Mitt Romney.  Polls show that in the last several days Santorum has skyrocketed to lead Romney in Ohio by as much as 42% to 24% in the lastest Rasmussen poll.  Ohio is a considered a swing state and is vitally important in the general election.

Third is the news that Santorum is rapidly closing in on Romney in Arizona.  Romney has the endorsement of Arizona Senator John McCain and Romney had been leading Santorum there by a very large margin.  But now with the Arizona race tightening up, Santorum is poised to make another clean sweep in the next primary contests.
Michigan and Arizona both hold their primaries on Feb 28th and Santorum is in a perfect position to win them both.  Even if Santorum only wins Michigan and comes in a strong second to Romney in Arizona he will still have all the momentum going into “Super Tuesday” when 10 states hold their contests.  With that type of momentum, Santorum could very well sweep most of the Super Tuesday states.

Michigan is vitally important to Mitt Romney’s hope for a path forward in this race because it’s the state he grew up in and his father was once the Governor.  Romney also won the state in 2008 when he ran for the nomination.  Losing Michigan would be considered an effective death blow to the Romney campaign.  And for Santorum to be the one to beat Romney in his home state would end any hope for Newt Gingrich to reemerge as the anti-Romney candidate.  Santorum holds a 39% to 24% lead over Romney in Michigan according to the most recent PPP poll, with Paul at 12% and Gingrich at 11%

Santorum has also surged into the lead in every major national poll, and Rasmussen has him as high as 39% to Romney’s 27%.

So unless something unexpected happens in the next 8 days to stop his incredible surge, it looks like Rick Santorum may be well on his way to securing the nomination.

1: Win the nomination. 2:  Win the general election. 3:  The inauguration. Yes, things may well come in 3s for Rick Santorum.
